Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Mini Mermaids Infant Aquatics lessons different from other swim programs?
Most swim lesson programs only offer basic water acclimation classes to children under the age of three years old. Children over the age of three years old will often be taught using flotation devices such as bubbles or assistive tools such as barbels and goggles. According to the American Red Cross, “as many as 69% of young children who are found drowned or submerged in swimming pools were not expected to be in or at the pool.” Accidental water encounters cannot be predicted. By enrolling your child in self-rescue survival swim lessons, you are ensuring they will not only learn to enjoy the water during planned swim times, but they will also learn how to save themselves in the event of an unexpected water encounter.
Mini Mermaids Infant Aquatics® offers self-rescue survival lessons to children ages 6 months and up! In just a few weeks, your child will learn to swim face down - roll to their back to float - and then roll back facedown to continue swimming. Your child will be instructed through a personalized one-on-one approach that is appropriate to their development.
Is a 10 minute lesson actually effective?
YES! Although it might seem like a short period of time, children are working incredibly hard during their lesson. It is important that a child learns proper technique. The 10 minute lesson is the perfect amount of time to maintain a child’s attention to practice the skills needed before becoming fatigued. All lessons are private one on one lessons so children have the instructors full attention during this time. The short duration of lessons & repetition is the key to the program success!
Is it a one-time program?
Yes! The repetition of lessons is a key component to getting a child skilled! By having lessons four times a week, a child is able to retain the skills learned from each lesson and build upon them each time. The repetition helps children develop muscle memory quickly. It is a one-time six week session! After the completion of the program, once a week maintenance lessons are offered to ensure a child maintains this muscle memory based skill.
